Finding the Beat in Urban Designs

Scenic mountains and valleys are typically the backdrop when we meet artists in their studios, however, not this time. The Hollow Work studio absorbs all the energy this city can offer, and is tucked away, directly across from one of the coolest doorways in the Washington D.C. metro area. Kate Hardy of Hollow Work marches to her own beat, just off the streets of NOMA (North of Massachusetts Ave). Her pieces inspire a modern, urban vibe with clean lines in both white ceramics and darker glazes.

We met Kate at a random chance meeting, at an art show pop-up booth, and decided to take a piece home and consider it. Those of you who know us already are aware that we like to think about pieces, and potential uses, before we engage with an artist. A few months later, I traveled to D.C. to visit her studio and get to know her style, her firing schedule and to better introduce her to our business.

Kate has a very creative mindset when working with different clients, including custom work she does in the hospitality industry with dinner and serving plates. She also has a wide variety of styles across her studio work.  We love the clean lines and bold colors of her ceramics, and are excited to have her pieces added to our gift box collection.
