So, What's Our Story?

Greetings, welcome to the story of how Red & Rugged came together to create this artisan gift experience.

As the “red” in this duo, I've always enjoyed spending as much time as possible with risk takers and creatives.  My passion is launching and building, and putting the pieces together. And I love to spice things up (thus the "red" nickname) in the process.

I’ve spent the majority of my career working around the startup community. Either working with startup companies, running my own, or working with organizations and professionals who invest in them. And when you spend that much time in the company of creative risk takers, it rubs off, soaks right into your DNA…or at least it has for me. Launching, building and bringing the pieces together are what rock my world.

A few things I’m committed to keeping up with outside of work passions include, a consistent Ashtanga yogi practice, a regular three mile jog outside (no treadmill) and a large bowl of salt-only popcorn whenever possible. I’m also a big believer in beverages with bubbles, which could mean anything from tonic water and lime, to a bottle of Izzy or a glass of Champagne. Bubbles make everything better!

My husband, the craftsman, and rugged half of our pairing, loves a good baseball game and travels with his brothers and father to watch college wrestling every year. He's passionate about creating with his hands, and has built everything from the homes we’ve lived in to porch chairs, bird houses, and the custom cutting boards you see on the pages of this website. He loves to put pieces together too, but in his own way.

Over the years, we began to travel to art shows in small towns and big cities, collecting special pieces that help tell a story about our lives.  Whether it's traveling across the valleys, through the cities, or into the mountains, we enjoy seeing new designs and hearing the artists’ fresh ideas.

After years in a traditional job routine, both of us wanted to bring a creative element back into our lives. It somehow had gotten lost in the routine. We finally realized we had spent so many years meeting and engaging with artists across the country, it was time to fold those relationships into our own business, and take the bold step of working together. And Kevin was thrilled to get his own workshop! We believe in the value these artisan pieces add to our lives, which is why you’ll find them in our home and in our gifts.

Kevin and I can’t think of a more interesting and inspiring way to grow together and enjoy this season of our lives. We hope you’ll join us on this adventure. (Newsletter sign up below!)
